The VIETSTAR municipal solid waste treatment facility – is located within the territory of Tay Bac Solid Waste Treatment Complex Zone, Thai My commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh city, Viet Nam. This project is invested and operated by Vietstar Joint Stock Company. The project activity involves the pre-sorting, classification of municipal solid waste (MSW); recycling of plastic waste and thermal-aerobic treatment of the organic fraction.

The project activity covers both phases in which the first phase has been completed constructing and started operating from 2009 with the designed capacity of plant is 600 tons/day (equivalent 216,000 tons of solid waste a year) and the second phase started from 11/2014 with the treatment capacity of 1,200 tons/day (equivalent 432,000 tons of solid waste per year) and production of 52,000 tons compost annually.

A total expected CO2 equivalent emission reduction is 1,816,693 tCO2 over the fixed crediting period of 10- year period.

The project also contributes to sustainable development goals including SDG 2 – Zero Hunger; SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth; SDG11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities; SDG 13 – Climate Action.

The project is registered under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Gold Standard (GS) and has done 4 verifications with 897,408 tCO2e issued.
