First CERs issued for hydropower CDM project of VNEEC

Nam Pia project is the first project of VNEEC successfully registered as CDM project two years ago. This is a great success which performs the comprehensive capacity and quality in CDM sector of VNEEC.

On January 14, 2011, the International Executive Board of CDM (EB) officially issued the emission reduction certificate (CER) for the Nam Pia Hydropower Project without any modification. These are the first CERs that VNEEC consults. Nam Pia project is the first project of VNEEC successfully registered as CDM project two years ago. This is a great success which performs the comprehensive capacity and quality in CDM sector of VNEEC.

Nam Pia Hydropower Project includes construction of a 15MW hydropower plant on Nam Pia stream in Chieng Hoa commune, Muong La district, Son La province.

The purpose of the project is to produce electricity from renewable energy sources (in this project is hydropower) to supply to the national grid under a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Vietnam electricity Corporation (EVN). The annual electricity output supplied to the national grid is 61,320 MWh and the total CO2 emission reduction is expected to be 238,720 tCO2 during the first 7 years of crediting period.

The construction and operation of Nam Pia hydropower project will bring positive contributions to the sustainable development in the project area as well as the country and in accordance with the policy of encouraging the exploitation of renewable energy resources of the Government, at the same time contributing to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the world community.
