On May 7, 2025, tEnergy and Environment Consultancy Joint Stock Company (VNEEC) successfully conducted a specialized training program on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for two key sectors: steel and thermal power. The training was tailored for specialists from the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV). The program aimed to enhance BIDV officers’ capacity in GHG inventory practices to meet relevant professional requirements, support the bank in advancing its Green Bank model, and prepare for participation in the domestic carbon market. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s increasing efforts to fulfill its GHG emissions reduction commitments and move toward a low-carbon economy.

Key topics included:
- Regulatory frameworks on GHG inventory and emissions reduction in Vietnam;
- An overview of the steel and thermal power sectors, including production processes and major emission sources;
- Facility-level GHG inventory methodologies for the thermal power and steel sectors, along with a demonstration of inventory tools;
- Principles for calculating integrated emission factors for steel products, in accordance with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Beyond technical knowledge, VNEEC experts also engaged participants in interactive discussions and addressed questions related to the GHG inventory process. Topics included comparative approaches to GHG accounting across various scopes and standards—such as facility-level inventories, product carbon footprinting, integrated emission factors under CBAM, and life cycle assessment (LCA). Real-world experiences and case studies were also shared to enhance practical understanding for BIDV trainees.
Mr. Trinh Quynh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Treasury Department, praised the training content, emphasizing that it represents a crucial step in helping the bank proactively adapt to market requirements. He noted that the program lays a solid foundation for integrating emissions-related assessment criteria and governance frameworks into BIDV’s green financial products.
With a team of deeply experienced experts and a practical, real-world approach, VNEEC continues to assert its pioneering role in climate change consulting, carbon markets, and energy transition in Vietnam. Its in-depth training programs provide a critical foundation for financial institutions to enhance their capabilities in emissions assessment, climate risk management, and to effectively accompany businesses on the journey toward sustainable development.
