On September 9–10, 2026, the 2026 Asia Carbon Pricing Forum was held in Seoul, South Korea. The event was co-organized by the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment of South Korea (MCEE), in collaboration with the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
Ms. Dang Hong Hanh, Co-founder and CEO of Energy and Environment Consultancy Joint Stock Company (VNEEC), attended the forum alongside representatives from regulatory bodies, leading experts, and international organizations.
Asia is currently emerging as the epicenter of global Emissions Trading System (ETS) development. Building upon the success of the 1st Forum in Taipei (2025), the 2026 Asia Carbon Pricing Forum continues to serve as a strategic regional dialogue platform. The event focused on discussing the current status, challenges, and solutions to enhance the efficiency of domestic ETS, as well as shaping the future outlook of the Asia-Pacific carbon market.
The 2-day forum program featured in-depth working sessions centered on sharing practical lessons from pioneering markets such as South Korea, Europe, California, and Australia, while providing updates on ETS implementation across several Asian countries, including Vietnam. Concurrently, experts held detailed discussions on core technical and strategic issues, including verification quality management, allowance auctioning mechanisms, roadmaps for transitioning to absolute emissions caps, the integration of the power sector into ETS, and corporate compliance strategies. Through these sessions, the event outlined collaborative directions and high growth expectations for the Asia-Pacific carbon market in the coming years.

At the forum, Ms. Dang Hong Hanh presented an update on the progress of ETS implementation in Vietnam. Her presentation provided an overview of the legal framework, market structure, and allowance allocation mechanisms during the 2025–2026 pilot phase. Additionally, Ms. Hanh highlighted the major challenges facing the system, notably gaps in the legal framework, limited Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) capacity among enterprises, and certain shortcomings in current allocation methodologies (such as reliance on historical data and the lack of detailed classification by technology type).
As one of the pioneering and leading consultancy firms in Vietnam in the field of climate change, VNEEC continuously updates itself on advanced global carbon pricing trends. Through discussions and exchanges at the forum, VNEEC continues to strengthen its international network and absorb practical lessons from global ETS models to effectively advise the government and support Vietnamese enterprises in enhancing their capacity to adapt to and comply with upcoming carbon regulations.
