On October 19, 2016, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) approved and issued 141,746 CERs for the CDM Project Avoiding methane emissions through aerobic composting at home Vietstar domestic solid waste processing machine for the first crediting period from January 6, 2013 to January 5, 2016.

Project activities are located in the Northwest Waste Treatment Complex, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The project is invested to build and operate by Vietstar Joint Stock Company, under LEMNA, an international corporation established in 1983 specializing in wastewater treatment technology and investing in domestic garbage processing plants. . Project activities include sorting garbage, recycling waste and composting production by the method of aerobic heat from organic ingredients in domestic waste applying technology to compost of LEMNA.

The main purpose of the proposed project is to produce compost from domestic waste without the project activity, this amount of waste will be decomposed anaerobically in the landfill. In the absence of project activities, garbage collected containing about 70.81% of organic waste will be buried at the landfill. The project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by building and operating technology for composting to treat the amount of organic waste in collected household waste. The project avoids the emission of large amounts of methane (CH4) into the atmosphere. The total emission reductions are estimated at 1,814,928 tons of CO2 during a 10-year fixed credit period.
