Nam Pia hydropower project successfully registered as a CDM project is a major turning point in the process of developing and registering CDM projects of VNEEC and thereby proving the consultancy capacity of high quality experts.
Nam Pia hydropower project, although being the 5th hydropower project of Viet Nam, is registered but is the project with the largest emission reduction and especially the first project to develop and successfully register into a CDM project by a domestic consultant, Energy and Environment Consultant Joint Stock Company (VNEEC). Nam Pia hydropower project includes the construction of a 15 MW hydroelectric plant on Nam Pia stream in Chieng Hoa commune. , Muong La district, Son La province. The purpose of the project is to produce electricity from renewable energy sources (hydropower) to supply to the national grid under a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN). The annual electricity output supplied to the national grid is 60.6 GWh and the total CO2 emission reduction is expected to be 238,721 tCO2 during the first 7 years of crediting period. The project signed a purchase and sale contract for emission reduction with Japan’s second largest power corporation – Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. The Nam Pia hydropower project has been completed by the end of June 2009 and the project has started commercial power generation to the national grid since July 2009.
Not only contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere – against global warming, Nam Pia hydropower project will bring positive contributions to sustainable development in the project area as well. as the country and in line with the Government’s policy of encouraging the exploitation of renewable energy sources.
