As part of the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai – Technical Manager of VNEEC – participated as a speaker in panel discussion #2: “Challenges in greenhouse gas emissions reporting in Vietnam.” Mr. Hai shared practical experiences in greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and the emissions reporting verification process, highlighting the key challenges faced by businesses. These include difficulties in collecting operational data, identifying and distinguishing emission sources, lack of supporting documentation, ensuring report accuracy, and complying with current regulations.

Through specific examples of common challenges encountered by businesses, the VNEEC representative offered practical solutions to improve GHG inventory capacity. These insights were drawn from real-world experiences and feedback from companies that took part in free training programs and workshops on GHG inventory, organized for sectors such as thermal power, cement, waste management, and transportation. These programs have attracted hundreds of participating businesses and provided them with valuable, hands-on knowledge to help them adapt to increasingly stringent GHG inventory and reporting requirements.

At the workshop, representatives from MAE, MOIT, as well as speakers from VCCI, BSI Vietnam, and others, repeatedly acknowledged VNEEC’s support in strengthening GHG inventory and reporting capacity. This includes their contributions to the development of an online system for facility-level GHG inventory reporting, and collaboration on GHG inventory and verification projects for businesses across Vietnam.

Although Vietnam has made notable efforts to support enterprises in enhancing their reporting capabilities and implementing GHG-related policies, the challenges discussed during the workshop underline the need to accelerate initiatives and companion programs. These efforts are essential for boosting GHG inventory capacity across energy, industrial, and other sectors—ensuring legal compliance and better preparation in the context of Vietnam’s emerging carbon market.
