VNEEC organizes capacity building on greenhouse gas emission reduction for Song Gianh Cement Joint Stock Company

On 25 November 2025, Energy and Environment Consultancy Joint Stock Company (VNEEC) organized a technical capacity building on greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation for Song Gianh Cement Joint Stock Company in Quang Tri Province. The activity aimed to support the company in updating legal requirements and enhancing the necessary technical capacity in the context of Vietnam accelerating its emission reduction efforts towards the net-zero emissions target by 2050.

As an establishment listed under Decision 13/2024/QĐ-TTg requiring GHG inventory and emission reduction, Song Gianh Cement is facing increasingly stringent demands regarding emission management and compliance with State regulations. Therefore, the training course was designed based on the company’s practical needs, focusing on key topics related to legal regulations, technical methods, and hands-on practice in emission reduction calculations. Around 10 staff members in charge of technical, operational, and environmental areas from Song Gianh Cement participated in the program.

During the course, VNEEC experts updated participants on the current legal framework related to GHG inventory and reduction, including requirements for measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV), as well as the obligations of major emitters in preparation for the national carbon market. The core part of the training involved practical exercises, where participants were guided to identify potential emission reduction measures for the cement sector and calculate emission reductions using a customized tool designed specifically for the selected mitigation measures.

The training not only provided specialized knowledge but also expanded discussions on challenges in emission management at cement plants, including optimizing production processes, improving energy efficiency, and preparing for participation in carbon credit trading mechanisms. Through this program, VNEEC reaffirms its role as a companion to enterprises in transitioning to low-emission models, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing their ability to meet new climate standards in Vietnam and internationally. The training course at Song Gianh Cement also contributes to strengthening the company’s readiness for participation in the domestic carbon market, which is expected to pilot in the coming years.
