Inception workshop Technical Assistance (TA) “Mainstreaming climate change mitigation into national infrastructure by developing Measuring, Reporting and Verification systems for Clean Technology Fund projects”

The project TA-9055 VIE: Mainstreaming Climate Change Mitigation into National Infrastructure will be kicked off at Sentosa Meeting Room, Fortuna Hotel, No. 6B Lang Ha street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi on 14 March 2019 in the form of an Inception Workshop targeted at core stakeholder groups within the Vietnamese national ministries and other relevant government agencies.

The overarching aim of the TA-9055 project, funded by the Asia Development Bank (ADB) with the support of the Department of Climate Change – Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (DCC – MoNRE) is to strengthen the capacity of MoNRE and other relevant government agencies in assessing climate change mitigation actions, by developing and strengthening the Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems. This MRV work will need to follow the stringent requirements of the World Bank Clean Technology Fund (CTF), which has to date provided funding for the implementation of five climate mitigation projects in Vietnam. The secondary target of the TA-9055 project is to develop sound sectoral guidelines on how to carry out these MRV activities, and to enhance the coordinating agencies’ institutional and technical capacities.

The TA-9055 project has a total funding of over US$ 1 million (CTF fund: US$ 999,600 and Government co-financing: US$ 25,400). The project is estimated to run from June 2018 to December 2019.

The Inception Workshop will discuss the findings of the first consultation mission conducted and present the up-to-date assessment of the activities under this project and the timeline. The workshop is part of a series of events focused on building capacity among stakeholders in the field of climate change mitigation and MRV, and as such it will provide an opportunity to discuss the planned technical assistance and what it means for participating ministries, agencies and key stakeholders.

The Inception Workshop is co-organized by ADB, DCC - MONRE and the consulting team. The workshop will be held at Sentosa Meeting Room, Fortuna Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam on 14 March 2019.
