National Workshop on NAMA development for the building sector

The Energy and Environment Consultancy Joint Stock Company (VNEEC) supported the Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (DMHCC) to organise the “National Workshop on NAMA development for the building sector” in Hoa Binh, Vietnam from 04-05 March 2014.

Participating in the Workshop were more than 40 representatives from governmental agencies (the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment), professional associations (Vietnam Green Building Council, Vietnam Civil Engineering Association, Vietnam Architect Association, Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development, Vietnam Institute of Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning), international donors and non-governmental organisations (UNEP, BMU, GIZ, the World Bank) and other entities in the energy-saving and green building sectors in Viet Nam.

At the Workshop, VNEEC had a presentation on the Draft National Assessment Report providing an overview of existing national policies, codes and standards, technology needs, institutional and financial barriers and relevant emissions data from the building sector in order to provide an initial assessment to support for the preparation of the NAMA in buildings in Viet Nam.

This Workshop is the first activity in Viet Nam under the project “NAMA development for the building sector in Asia” developed by UNEP and funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in the four prioritised countries in the Asia-Pacific region (Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam).

Follow-up workshops are expected to be organised in the next 2 years for further assessment, preparation and implementation of NAMAs for energy saving in the building sector in Viet Nam.
