Workshop “Introduction of Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)”

On 18th February 2014, Energy and Environment Consultancy Joint Stock Company (VNEEC) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) successfully organized the Workshop on “Introduction of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)” in Ho Chi Minh City.

JCM is a carbon offset mechanism which was proposed by Japan to enhance its bilateral cooperation with developing countries including Vietnam in order to implement GHG reduction activities via transfer of clean and advanced technology from Japan to these countries. Vietnamese Government and Japanese Government have agreed on the start to the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) through entering the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Low Carbon Growth on 2 July 2013.

The workshop aimed to enhance the JCM implementation in Vietnam, introducing related projects and seeking opportunities for JCM in Vietnam. The workshop introduced the JCM to the participants and updated the latest JCM development milestones in Vietnam and in the World. In addition, the methodology on “Energy Efficiency Improvement for Electric Arc Furnace in Steel making Industry” was also introduced and discussed with the participants.

There were approximately 40 people participating in the Workshop. They are representatives from governmental agencies, professional associations, international donors and consultants, auditors and other entities in the energy-saving potential sectors.
