Implement the project “Development of The CDM Market in Viet Nam 2007 – 2009” financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, 2007-2010

 

The main aims of the project are to contribute to:

  • facilitate the development and mature of the CDM market in Vietnam,
  • facilitate the participation of the Danish government and private entities in the CDM market in Vietnam by introducing the most feasible CDM projects to Danish companies and supporting the establishment of the commercial partnership between the Danish and Vietnamese companies, and
  • the sustainable development of Vietnam.

Actual services provided within the assignment:

  • Identify the potential CDM project types in five gross potential sectors, namely renewable energy, energy efficiency, fuel switch, methane avoidance and
  • Develop 12 Project ideas  and 8 Project Design Documents.
  • Write the risk assessment report for each project idea. The risks related to the materialising a potential CDM project into Certified Emission Reduction (CER) are assessed with regard to the methodology risk and investment risk.
  • Organise business forum at the end of the project.

The project implementation has built the certain gaps in the CDM market in Vietnam. The project implementation is aligned very well with the support from the Danish government to promote CDM projects in particular and to implement activities to mitigate GHG emissions and alleviate negative impacts of climate change in Vietnam.

 

Implement a sub-contract under the project “Benefits on Climate Change Adaptation from Small and Medium Scale Hydropower Plants: Synergies and Trade-offs with Rural Development” financed by the Royal Danish Embassy in Vietnam implemented by Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, 2008

Conduct the study and write the book “Procedures for developing CDM project activities in Vietnam. The case of small-scale hydropower plants in Lao Cai province” under the project financed by the Royal Danish Embassy in Vietnam.


Implement the project “National HCFCs Data Survey in Refrigeration Sectors in Vietnam” financed by the World Bank and Multilateral Fund on ODS coordinated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, 2010

The project conducts a HCFCs survey and energy efficiency in all sectors – commercial, industrial, and residential air-conditioning systems, and refrigeration sector including manufacturing and servicing sectors in Vietnam that can provide a comprehensive database on the actual HCFCs import, distributions and consumptions and then sketch out the basic scenarios for the future of HCFCs import and consumptions and GHG potential emission from energy efficiency activities in the above mentioned sectors in Vietnam.

Actual activities conducted within the assignment:

  • Set up a survey team and conducted the survey on HCFC consumption/import in Vietnam, substitute technologies for HCFC-22 and other HCFCs in refrigeration and air-conditioning, national and local policies, as well as an introduction to the key stakeholders.
  • Prepared a data collection strategy, delineating the data collection approach and key stakeholders and a methodology to validate the accuracy of the data collected.
  • Distributed the questionnaires to the target enterprises.
  • Organized a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City to present findings of the survey to the target enterprises and stakeholders.
  • Prepared the Final report.

 

Implement the project “IGES CDM Capacity Building in Vietnam, 2009” financed by IGES, Japan, 2009-2010

The aim of this study is to identify the potential candidates and formulating proposals for energy efficiency and GHG reducing activities in cement and ceramic kilns which will be eligible for JICA’s Two-Step Loan (TSL) project. Conducting the study on energy efficiency in ceramic kilns in Bat Trang village and cement factories in Hai Duong province financed by the Ministry of Environment of Japan in 2010.

Actual activities conducted within the assignment:

  • Activity 1: Formulating proposals for 02 GHG reduction activities which are eligible for energy efficiency project in household ceramic furnaces in Bat Trang village and cement factory in Hai Duong province
  • Activity 2: Reporting latest developments of the CDM in Vietnam every 02 months

 

Implement a sub-contract under the project “Renewable Energy Development Project in Vietnam” financed by State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of Switzerland and implemented by Ernst Basler + Partner AG, 2011-2014

The World Bank and the Swiss Government are financing the Renewable Energy Development Project in Vietnam. The project aims to increase the supply of electricity to the national grid from renewable energy sources on a financially, environmentally and socially sustainable basis.

Within the Renewable Energy Development Project in Vietnam the Ernst Basler + Partner AG is providing consulting services to the Swiss Government, and in this context the VNEEC - Subcontractor is providing support services with data and information research about the renewable energy sector and its framework in Vietnam to the Ernst Basler + Partner AG.

 

Implement a study “Analysis of Current and Future Carbon Market in Vietnam and Developing Domestic Carbon Market” financed by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, 2011

The project aims to provide an indepth analysis of current trend of the carbon market in Vietnam and the future of CDM and other carbon mechanisms in Vietnam. Recommendations on management of the carbon market in Vietnam are also provided.
